About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Welcome to our Garden Club. This page offers a little more about who we are, what we do, and what you can expect as part of our community.

Our club brings together people who share a genuine interest in gardens and gardening. Some members have decades of experience, while others are simply beginning their journey. What unites us is a curiosity about plants, a respect for the natural world, and the enjoyment that comes from working with the soil and watching a garden grow and change through the seasons.

Cathy Lammie

2026 Safari Gardens and Plant Sale Organiser.
A late in life lover of gardening. I love to experiment with growing seeds and try to follow the advice of the NLGC speaker’s suggestions to be more successful!!
I struggle to sit still and relax in my garden when on my own as there is always something to do.
I can’t resist a new plant and rarely plan before I buy, but I can always find a place for any plant.
Happy gardening all.

Hilary Smith

I have been interested in gardening since I was a child but did not have parents who passed on tips.
A follower of Geoff Hamilton , I have tried to be as organic as possible.
My present garden was “new build” in 2012 with no plants, trees or hard standing and has evolved with successes and failures since to be a hopefully pleasant area kind to insects and wildlife .”

Jane Stevenson

Jane has lived in South Luffenham for 20 years, joining the Garden Club committee several years ago as Programme Secretary. She now does an incredible job organising our annual outing, managing the monthly lottery and supporting the newer committee members. She has always had a passion for gardening and loves trying new ideas. Jane enjoys the NLGC meetings and over the years, the variety of speakers have given her the knowledge to execute and plan her own stunning garden.

Penny Forbes

Penny has been a committee member since 2020. Her main committee roles are arranging monthly Speakers, assisting with lottery preparation, seed swap management and kitchen assistance.
Penny’s enthusiasm for gardening began with growing vegetables, salads and fruit for the family.  Marrying Malcolm and moving over the years to much larger gardens provided the opportunity to share, learn, experiment and develop a wider interest and love of her favourite pastime.
The, sometimes, hard graft, success and failures are all part of the fun and enjoying the outdoors too; perfect!

Malcolm Forbes

Malcolm has been a committee member since 2020.  His main committee roles are arranging the monthly Speakers and managing the seating layout at each meeting.

Progressing from a small suburban garden (10 years) to a rural plot of over an acre (5 years), he took a much deeper interest in plants along with garden layout and impact. The rural plot was largely woodland but also had a large herbaceous bed and small rockery.  Moving on from this garden to a 2+ acre plot (20 years) demanded a significant commitment, with woodland, large pools, formal and rockery areas all on a large scale.  Malcolm continues to provide the brawn to Penny’s brains in a small local garden (7 years).

Amanda Hall

Amanda joined the committee a couple of years ago and is the one who pesters everyone for their membership fees!
She is a passionate gardener and loves the club’s connection of like minded people coming together to enjoy the common theme of plants, gardening and nature.
